This seminar explains the fundamental characteristics of the generic equity derivative instruments: futures, CFDs, equity swaps, and equity options.

objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • discuss derivative instruments and the rationale for their use,
  • identify the link between the cash equity and derivatives market,
  • explain the key features and applications (both for institutional investors and corporate customers) of equity forwards, futures, and swaps, whether on an index or on a single stock,
  • recognise the importance of structured equity derivative instruments,
  • understand how these derivatives can be hedged and the likely impact of hedging on the equity market, and
  • identify and manage risks associated with equity derivative instruments.
